Moose Lake nurses announce plans to picket

MNA nurses from Moose Lake Hospital in Essentia will picket starting Tuesday, June 28 outside the hospital from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Essentia bought the hospital two years ago. The nurses say Essentia has not recognized their previous contracts and has lost bonuses, earned sick leave hours and company pension contributions since that purchase.

“When Essentia bought our hospital two years ago, executives rejected our contract and took us back to square one, driving nurses away from the jobs we love,” explained Sarah Lambert, RN at Essentia-Moose Lake. “It’s time for Essentia to approve a fair contract that will keep experienced local nurses at the bedside here in Moose Lake.”

In the push for new contracts, MNA nurses are demanding language that would address shift scheduling, allowing nurses more input and predictability into their schedules as they balance a demanding career with d other responsibilities. Nurses also seek to address hospital understaffing and retention issues, keep nurses at the bedside, and put patients and community care ahead of corporate health policies and profits. .

This information picket is not a work stoppage; nurses will not leave their jobs to participate in the picket and hospital operations will not be affected by the action.
